Sarah Colson

A project in collaboration with photographer Anna Batchelor;  Home Sweet Home was a body of work that told the story of a dispersed community on the Kidbrook estate in South-East London. The community were the residents of the Ferrier, a large housing estate, which was demolished to make way for a new development.

With emphasis on the human experience of regeneration, Batchelor took portraits of the remaining residents of the Ferrier in the context of the changing estate. Colson fused the craft of cross-stitch embroidery with quotations from Ferrier residents and imagery from the estate’s environment.

The exhibition took place as a guerrilla exhibition on the estate and at a later date at SHOPWORK.  A documentary was produced by Zaunka see here and a book documenting the residents perspectives as well as the artists work can be purchased here.

The project informed the ongoing research Sarah Colson Ltd has into community as well as influencing her commercial product ranges.
