The Clara Lux collection was launched in January 2016 at Maison et Objet.  The collection combined design expertise from Sarah Colson and Aimee Betts, winning the duo the Lava Award 2016 for Best Design at the Potentiale exhibition

The process and inspiration

The collection of pendant lights with colourful textured cables was the first collaboration of Sarah Colson and Aimee Betts. The outcome of this collaboration was a reinvention of a colour-block theme that allows the viewer’s eye to wonder. This was achieved through the development of Sarah's work with borosilicate and Conturax glass and Aimee's deep knowledge of colour and textile design. Their collaboration combined coloured glass shades, pleated glass elements and multicoloured knitted cable covers. Read more about their collaboration journey.

The collection

The range is formed of a trio of tri-coloured pendant lights. These can be hung as single pendants or arranged in sets of two, three or more for a more dramatic feature. Each pendant has a handblown clear glass ball suspended from a separate central two-colour Conturax piece, finished with a textile cable cover knitted in two colours on a circular knitting machine.

The range comprises:

  • Clara Lux single pendant violet with a blue and yellow woven cable

  • Clara Lux single pendant yellow with a teal and pink woven cable

  • Clara Lux single pendant green with a orange and purple woven cable

The pleated form of the glass shade distorts the knitted surface of the cable creating a satisfying layer of tone and texture. The effect brings contemporary style and elegance to interior spaces.

The collection is available to purchase through the Sarah Colson Studio online shop and select stockists. It can be customised on a commission basis only; please contact the studio to discuss your specific requirements.
